Bruno Dufourmantelle's work is permeated by a physical confrontation with painting and the absolute plasticity it implies. This is as true for the paintings bearing the explicit title "Battles" as it is for the more recent ones, where the image is born of a physical confrontation with the organic aspects of painting materials and techniques: black background, light, colors, shapes. "I start with black backgrounds to bring out the light".
